Twenty-eight much-needed student bedrooms are to be constructed in Letterkenny.
Donegal County Council this week granted planning permission for the development at the Sweeney’s Spar Express at Ballyraine.
Existing office will be converted into student accommodation while a two-storey extension to the rear of the complex will see further accommodation provided.
In total, the works will provide 20 new single bedrooms and eight twin bedrooms.
The development also caters for shared living and ancillary accommodation as well as a shared amenity roof garden space will also be constructed.
An external launderette, additional parking and a landscaped amenity area are also included.
The planning documents also provides for a pedestrian link from the carpark to the accommodation.
Planning permission is subjected to 16 conditions set down by the local authority.
A revised set layout plan will be submitted to provide for a pedestrian path along the desire line between a proposed open space and the rear access to the adjoining dwelling.
Donegal County Council say that the development should only be used for the purpose of student accommodation or accommodation related to an approved Higher Education Institute.
They cannot be let or sold on separately as holiday accommodation or as independent living units, without a separate grant of planning permission.
A covered and secure cycle parking and refuse area must be provided and the upgraded car parking is to be completed before the first use of the accommodation.
