An Independent councillor hopes to see tourists walking safely from significant tourist spots in the Annagry and Mín na Leice areas to the brewery in Crolly. Independent councillor Micheál Choilm Mac Giolla Easbuig said the Annagry, Crolly and surrounding areas have a lot to offer tourists and he is currently in talks with Údarás na Gaeltachta and other organisations to get a map put together to showcase all the area has to offer.
He was speaking at the Glenties Municipal District meeting which was held on Tuesday, in Dungloe. Cllr Mac Giolla Easbuig said tourists cannot walk from the Caisleáin Óir Hotel to Crolly because the roads are too dangerous and that there are few pavements running alongside the roads. There are a number of bends in the roads as you approach the Crolly junction from the Mín na Leice direction. “The road is also the main route that people use to travel to Donegal Airport and is regularly traveled. “We have our own distillery and a brewery in Anagaire, we have Leos, Tessie’s, Danny Minnie’s and Caisleáin Óir where people come to stay and enjoy the food and drink. We have our own beer and all of these places are on the road to and from Donegal airport where we have tourists staying in the area. “Tourists come to Annagry to enjoy the food and drink and we have so much to offer and there will be more in the future,” he said.
The Errigal Brewing company is a small independent brewery located in the grounds of Caisleáin Óir Hotel. Mr Mac Giolla Easbuig urged the departments of roads and community development to come together to see what they could achieve in relation to developing a network of pavements that could tie local pubs and restaurants together. “Could we tie it all together? We are hearing tourists say that they want to walk to the distillery and we want to walk to trá an bhráid but right now it is too dangerous,” said Cllr Mac Giolla Easbuig in Irish. He also asked that a walkway be considered between Carrick and Glassagh in Gaoth Dobhair and highlighted the dangers associated with the road alongside Coláiste Gaeilge, Loch an Iuir and on the road leading to and from the Caisleáin Óir Hotel. He was informed that applications had been made before for a number of pedestrian linkages but that funding was not forthcoming. However, he was informed that officials were agreeable to discussing his plans.
