Shock and sadness at passing of Rossbracken's Michael Jim Quinn

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to last Friday's collision at Tooban, Burnfoot to come forward

The victim of the crash at Tooban, Burnfoot on Friday has been named.

He was Michael Jim Quinn, Rossbracken and formerly Backhill, Meenagorey and Buncrana.

He was seriously injured when the car he was driving struck a ditch around 4.30pm. He was removed from the scene to Letterkenny University Hospital in a serious condition where he later passed away.

A female passenger, aged in her early 60s was not injured during the collision.

His sad passing has evoked memories for everyone who knew him.

In a Facebook tribute from Cónaitheoirí Bheart (Burt Residents) locals praised his dedication.

"Jim loved his sport and often played football in Burt for several different teams. He also brought teams together for Summer Cup games."

The tributes also included Buncrana councillor, Jack Murray who said he was very saddened to hear the news.

On his Facebook page he spoke of his times with the late Mr Quinn and his endearing personality.

"There'll be many a yarn told over the next few days about Jim Quinn, following his tragic and sudden passing.

"Jim was a gentleman, well known as an experienced expert at telling tall tales. Any time I met him he was always upbeat and happy - a great quality in any person. He was known by everyone locally and famous all over for his fortune-telling.

"He was also a very passionate Irish republican and dropped everything at election time to knock on every door," he added.

The late Mr Quinn is survived by his wife Pauline, their children Emma, Paula, Iris, and Amanda, as well as their sons Derek and Steven, grandchildren, and great-grandson,


Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.
