Flooding Update: Firefighters battle to pump water from homes and businesses

Castlefinn on Saturday evening

Firefighters and members of affected communities are battling severe flooding in parts of east Donegal.

Raphoe and Castlefinn are worst affected, with localised flood water having entered homes and businesses in those communities.

A spokesperson for McGlynn's Restaurant in Castlefinn took to social media to convey their gratitude for the response to the crisis.

"Not all hero's wear capes," said the spokesperson. "We have some superstars here tonight it will be remembered."

A number of roads around Donegal are also reported to be treacherous, and motorists are advised not to drive through floodwater. The Ramelton road out of Letterkenny is particularly bad between Woodlands NS and the Sliver Tassie.

Anyone with footage of flooding or who wishes to inform our readers about flooding in their area is invited to email news@donegallive.ie

A status yellow warning for rainfall with potential for localised flooding has been issued by Met Eireann. It will remain in place until 11am on Sunday.
