Harald Jeungst spoke of his love for Donegal
Leo’s Tavern was packed to the door for the launch of the Healing Hands CD on Thursday night. The Healing Hands CD is a culmination of five years of work by Harald ‘Mór’ Juengst from Germany but who now lives in Ranafast.
Harald Mór Jeungst plays the handpan on the CD - an instrument uncommon to this region. Ahead of the launch, he said: “On this CD I also wanted to find out whether the metallic sound of my handpan could bring a hitherto unknown timbre to Irish music. I would like to use the proceeds from the sale of this album to support and honour the ‘Healing Hands’ of the ‘Doctors Without Borders’ in their very important humanitarian work worldwide.”
On Thursday night Harald took to the stage and spoke of his love for Donegal, he described the landscape, language, culture and music of the region: “Donegal means a lot to me.”
The CD which features top-class musicians from Donegal has raised €5,000,to date, for the Doctors without Borders charity.
Speaking about the organisation Harald said the work doctors do is immensely important and said he wanted to raise money to honour and support their work.
He thanked everyone, the businesses who supported him and also thanked the musicians who waived their fee to work with him on the album.
Launching the album, Altan’s Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh said that we don’t realise the work that these doctors do: “They go into places of war and conflict and save the innocent.”
She commended the work that Harald does in promoting the region: “He promotes the north west region from morning to night on his radio show.”
She sang a song she composed for her daughter at the launch.
Mairéad said: “We are thinking today of Sinéad - what an amazing performer and artist.”
Harald read a note which was sent from the charity’s base in Dublin where they apologised for not being able to be present and expressed gratitude for his work.
The night continued with song and music from some of best musicians in the country.
The Healing Hands CD was also launched on Sunday, July 23, in Aislann Rann na Feirste.
This CD will be available for €15.00 in west Donegal shops and also through Harald’s website here.
