The Ronald McDonald House charities

Two men who are traveling from Donegal to Dingle have raised over €7,000, to date, for the Ronald McDonald House and Cian's Kennells.

The two men Shane Barr and John Doherty are undertaking an epic journey of 450km. The challenge is being undertaken in fond memory of baby Aria Rose, the daughter of Shane and Tracey, who sadly passed in February.

It is hoped this journey will raise money for both the Ronald McDonald House and Cian's Kennells who helped Shane and Tracey during an exceptionally difficult time of their lives.

The idonate page which has been set up to raise funds, describes how beautiful baby girl Aria Rose was born with complex needs and a rare syndrome in 2022. The baby girl miraculously continued to defy all odds for 16 months and gained her wings as an angel on February 17.

Aria Rose is described as loving, brave, strong, funny and massively inspirational: "We learnt so much about values in life from her. Kindness, support, positivity, appreciation, trust, patience, belief  is what filled our days."

Shane, Tracey and Aria Rose spent her entire life in hospital with only 12 days being spent at home: "We could not have stayed everyday close as a family if we hadn’t of had the support from Ronald McDonald House and Cian's Kennels."

They say the organisations became their extended family helping them find light in their darkest days: "A roof over our heads, food in our stomach and our dogs close by to go for a walk with to clear our heads is priceless, these are true luxuries when you have a child long term in hospital, life becomes very different but we found hope in kindness and that is exactly what we got from these two amazing charities and we will be forever grateful that they kept us as a family, so we are trying to give back in the hope they we can pay it forward to other families by raising as much as we can."
