The artists create beautiful artistic pieces
Art in the Park is back this August with an intimate show planned for the historic and picturesque surroundings of Ballyconnell house.
Turas Úr, an arts collective based in the north of the county was formed with the goal of making visual arts more accessible to the wider community. Turas Úr artists have already created a sculpture ‘pop up’ in the local landscape as well as hosting last year’s hugely successful event ‘Art in the Park’ – a one-day celebration of visual art, music and community.
The group are back again, this year, with a more intimate show planned. Participants will weave their way through the historic grounds of Ballyconnell house and discover delights at every turn – from sculpture pieces to sound installations, it promises to be a walk of wonder.
This year the group has a very exciting special guest, internationally renowned visual artist Locky Morris. Known for his large-scale sculptural work, including Letterkenny’s Polestar. Locky is an immense talent, who views and documents the world through a variety of media.
Speaking about the event, Turas Úr manager Leanne McLaughlin said: “The group is delighted to be able to bring Art in the Park back. The success of last year’s event and positive feedback received demonstrated the importance of community arts events like this. We have received tremendous support from the local community in Cloughaneely and hope to repay them with a really exciting show.
“The event wouldn’t be possible without this support and the support of Ealaín na Gaeltachta. This year in particular shows the diversity and breadth of talent in the area – with film pieces, soundscapes, sculptures, print and music. And we are delighted to welcome Locky as our invited artist – from his sculptures to digital works, he has a unique vision and we are looking forward to see that in our outdoor art space.”
Art in the Park will also feature a video installation tent, where established film-makers will show their short films, alongside local talent. Back again is the kid’s art workshop tent, whereby kids of all ages can experience arts participation first hand. The event will also feature some live music and refreshments will be available from the wonderful Mountain Melts.
The exhibition will feature works from Leanne McLaughlin, Locky Morris, Cathal McGinley, Ed Devane, Laura Nic Dhuibhir, Mickey McFadden, John McCarron, John Collins and Maire Nic Fhearraigh, alongside a video installation tent, featuring works by Katie McFadden and Sinead Flanaghan.
