Holidaymakers who launched an appeal having lost his wedding ring in west Donegal has managed to locate it and the family expressed their gratitude to all who assisted.

Adam Swann from Liverpool, his wife Erin and children Aoife and Soairse were on a break in Crolly, with his aunt and uncle Paddi and Kevin Anderson, and grandmother Granny Rosie Anderson joining them from Derry.

After visiting Cruit Island, Adam realised his wedding ring was lost and made an appeal via the Oileán na Cruite Facebook page last week: "A message was received earlier this week to say that a man had lost his wedding ring while swimming at Tra Dhearg - a plain platinum ring.”

"If out on the beach over the weekend please keep your eyes peeled as I'm sure you can imagine that loss of something so special is upsetting."

However, it all ended well, as within three days they managed to locate the missing wedding ring - thanks to a metal detector from a friend and, of course, a little help from above.

“We posted about the missing ring on the Cruit Community Facebook,” Paddi told DonegalLive. “And we did learn that in between the three days that the ring was lost, some of the locals did that a detector to the beach looking for it.  So we would like to thank them.

“In addition, we were advised by a local shopkeeper to pray to St Anthony. So we did. We borrowed the detector from another neighbour, Gerald in Derry, whose hobby is detecting. When we returned to Cruit, we located the ring within 10 minutes, which was amazing given that it was listed three days before that! We found it buried half a foot of wet sand. Thanks to everyone on the Island for their help, and offers of help.”

“When we found the ring and wrote thanks to St Anthony on the sand, and to Gerald. Gerald From Derry, was the friend who lined us the metal detector.”
