A group of sea swimmers who swapped their swimwear for occasion wear to enjoy a day at the races made quite an impression. So much so that one of them - Indrid Porperkaite - took home the title of Best Dressed Lady.

Ingrid lives in Bruckless and owns Ingrid's Balloons. Worn with an understated confidence, the ensemble of sleeveless dress, strappy sandals and striking hat decorated with real heather caught the eye of the judges on Ladies Day at the Sligo races, winning Ingrid the coveted Best Dressed Lady Sligo Races 2023 prize.

Ingrid described her success as a 'pinch me moment.'

It had been a last minute decision for Ingrid to attend the races. With little time to plan an outfit, she drew on her creativity to come up with a unique and absolutely stunning headpiece.

Ingrid began by buying a hat in a charity shop with a view to upstyling it. Then, while driving from Letterkenny to Bruckless, the abundance of pink heather on the roadside caught her attention. She stopped to pick some despite the pouring rain, and used it to transform the old hat into the eye catching headpiece.

Ingrid said she never dreamt that it would lead to her bagging such a fantastic prize, and was overcome with emotion when she was announced as winner.

Ingrid's prize pack included a €500 Sligo Racecourse voucher, a Newbridge Silverware cutlery canteen, a gift voucher for Róisín Linnane and membership and flying lesson at Sligo Aeronautical Club.

It was the icing on the cake for the ladies from Fintra Bay Dippers who had a great day out at the races.
