The family of a Burtonport baby who spent 27 weeks in Temple Street Children’s Hospital after birth last September have organised big fundraisers to say thank you to various organisations who provided assistance.
Little Jamie Boyle was born at Letterkenny University Hospital in September, 2022.
Immediately after birth, Jamie struggled with his breathing and the following day he was on his way to the intensive care unit at Temple Street, where he was diagnosed with Pierre Robin Syndrome.
PRS is a condition where babies are born with a small lower jaw, have difficulties breathing and often will have a cleft palate.
“Jamie has all of these symptoms,” Jamie’s mum, Helena, says. “Temple Street Hospital became home for Jamie for the next 27 weeks. The care he received was second to none. Jamie spent his first night at home in April 2023.
“Over the course of those weeks, we as a family received help and advice from a number of charities, we are so grateful for their support.
“We now would like to raise funds for the charities that helped us along our journey, so that they can continue to help families of children in hospital for prolonged periods of time.”
A GoFundMe page has been launched as part of Jamie’s Thank You and you can donate here.
The organisations who will benefit are: Children’s Health Foundation Temple Street; Donegal Cancer Flights and Services; BUMBLEance; Blood Bikes Northwest; and Little Blue Heroes.
Two fundraising events have been organised with both taking place at the Burtonport Community Centre in October.
On October 14, a Mammies Market will take place with donations of new and good quality secondhand baby and children’s items - toys, clothes and baby equipment - being accepted.
On October 15, a vintage style tea party will be hosted by the family.
