The 175th anniversary of the 19 famine orphan girls shipped to Australia from Ballyshannon Workhouse was marked on Sunday afternoon. The event took place at the Famine Orphan Memorial beside the workhouse, guided by renowned local historian Anthony Begley of County Donegal Historical Society. Flowers were laid for the girls, and there were songs, stories and a short tour of the area. Photographer Philip Mulligan was on hand to mark the occasion.
