A man has appeared in court charged with having a knife in a busy Letterkenny shop.

Sean Gallagher was before Judge Ciaran Liddy at Letterkenny Court via video link from Castlerea Prison.

Gallagher, a 45-year-old of Burnside Park, Letterkenny, was charged with an alleged offence on August 21, 2023.

He was charged that, at Dunnes Stores, Oldtown Road, Letterkenny, he did without lawful authority or reasonable excuse have with him in a public place a kitchen knife for causing injury to or incapacitating a person.

The offence is contrary to Section 9(4) of the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act, 1990.

Solicitor Mr Patsy Gallagher told the court that bail had been refused and directions were awaited from the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Sergeant Gerard Dalton said directions were not yet available.

Judge Liddy adjourned the matter until Thursday, August 31.
