The sailing vessel is towed to safety by the Killybegs Coast Guard.

Two people were brought safely to shore after their sailing vessel encountered difficulty on Wednesday night off Killybegs.

The vessel was bought ashore by the Killybegs Coast Guard after getting into trouble nine nautical miles west-south west of Killybegs.

At 8.56pm, the Malin Head Coast Guard tasked the Killybegs Coast Guard to the vessel.

The vessel experienced a  loss of engine power and with little to no wind the vessel was ‘becalmed’.

A crew from the Killybegs Coast Guard were just finishing a schedule cliff rescue training at Muckross Head at the time they were tasked.

The vessel was taken under tow back to the small craft harbour with the Coast Guard team returning to their station at 1am.
