Newtowncunningham Community First Responders (CFR) Group proudly announces the successful installation of five new public access defibrillators across the local area.
This significant expansion of their lifesaving initiative was made possible through the generous funding received from the Department of Rural and Community Development under the Community Recognition Fund.
A spokesperson for the group said: “With a strong commitment to the health and safety of the community, Newtowncunningham CFR Group has worked tirelessly to enhance emergency response capabilities and improve outcomes for cardiac emergencies.
“The addition of five strategically located public access defibrillators represents a substantial step towards achieving this goal.
“The Department of Rural and Community Development, through its Community Recognition Fund, recognised the crucial importance of improving access to defibrillation in emergency situations. Their support has enabled Newtowncunningham CFR Group to extend their reach and provide timely assistance when it matters most.”
The newly installed public access defibrillators can be found at:
-Harkins Gala, St Johnston
-Doherty’s Café, Bridgend
-Halfway Stores, Tooban
-Callaghan’s Gala, Burt
-McElhinneys XL Stores, Manorcunningham
The spokesperson said: “These easily accessible defibrillators have been strategically placed in high-traffic areas to ensure prompt availability during critical moments. Newtowncunningham CFR Group is confident that these installations will significantly enhance the community's ability to respond effectively to cardiac emergencies, potentially saving precious lives.

-Credit Union, Newtowncunningham
-Healthwise Pharmacy, Newtowncunningham
-Duffy’s Express, Monfad
-All Saints Church, Newtowncunningham
-Carraig Inn, Carrigans
-Killea Petrol Station
The spokesperson added: “We extend our deepest gratitude to the department for recognising the importance of this initiative and for their commitment to improving community safety."
Newtowncunningham CFR Group encourages community members to familiarise themselves with the locations of the defibrillators and to learn basic CPR skills which are available for free from NCFR.
These are available due to the purchase of additional training equipment which was possible from the funding received from the Department of Rural and Community Development, Our Rural Future and Project Ireland 2040. In an emergency situation, every second counts, and quick action can make a significant difference in saving a life.
