Work is expected to commence on the Arbatt Bridge in Glenfin by the end of this month.

The structure has been closed for some time now causing locals much inconvenience

In a report during the early stages of Monday's Lifford-Stranorlar Municipal District meeting councillors were told that a Stage 1 Appropriate Assessment has been completed and had determined that the proposed repair works will not adversely affect the River Finn Special Area of Conservation (SAC). They also heard that tender documents are being prepared with a view to advertising on eTenders in May. It is expected that a contractor will be on-site in July.

Cllr McGowan said this report was out of date and to the best of his knowledge no work had started.

"I was up there in August and there was no sign of nobody unless it started in the past week or two. It's now September, I don't know what the delay is. This is a very busy road and links that whole area down into Glenswilly and Letterkenny. I know staff in the council use it as well."

He added he did not know what the reason for the delay was locals needed to be kept informed on any progress.

Later in the meeting, the councillors were informed that tenders had been assessed and a contractor was to be appointed to complete the works at Arbatt Bridge. Works are expected to commence towards the end of September.
