A huge crowd turned out to give David Crawford a hero’s welcome back to Leghowney on Monday evening.
David was the goalkeeper for the Irish team at the SUDS Open European Championship for Down Syndrome Football last week.
The Leghowney community turned out in droves as David, came home to Leghowney Hall in an open-top car, adorned by a tricolour with ‘Save it David’ emblazoned.
The crowd sang ‘olé, olé, olé’ as David took in the acclaim after representing Ireland. The Championships took place in
“Thank you everybody,” David said from the stage inside.
Hughie Sweeney from Gweedore and Letterkenny’s Daniel O’Reilly were also on the squad.
The trio play with the Donegal Down Syndrome team, who train most Saturdays at the Aura Leisure Complex in Letterkenny. Tony McNamee and Danny Ferry are the lead coaches with this group.
