There will be a drop-in day at Bundoran Community Centre this coming Monday September 18, for people to ask questions and air their views regarding the future of the popular resort. The offices will be open from 4-8pm.

Observations and submissions regarding the further development of Bundoran and the surrounding area are being sought, with the day a follow on from the publication of the Draft County Donegal Development Plan 2024-2030 for Bundoran in early August, which also included area plans for Ballybofey-Stranorlar and Buncrana.

Cllr Michael McMahon has advised south Donegal residents that the draft county development plan 2024-2030 which includes the new Bundoran area plan will be available for public consumption and written submissions, but this will end on October 13.

Topics up for discussion include derelict buildings in the resort, traffic management strategies, especially during the summer months, land rezoning for an increasing population base and other developments and amenities that will enhance the seaside town, for both locals and visitors.

He said: “As can be seen by the recent housing developments starting or in the pipeline for Bundoran, or as with the upgrading of water pipes or the water treatment plant, in recent years, it is vitally important, on so many levels, than an active engagement with the process is supported, and the views are heard from the people that live here, each day of the year on the new draft proposals that will take us to the end of this decade.

“As with any new developments the town is changing to meet the new demands and expectations of residents and visitors and which has been the catalyst in the past of many of the attractions and utilities that we all benefit from today.”

Donegal County Council say that the draft plan will guide future planning and public investment decisions across a wide range of development areas including housing, economic development, climate change, transport infrastructure, renewable energy, and the management of our natural and built heritage.

You can also make written submissions to the planning authority at The Central Planning Unit, Donegal County Council House, Lifford, with full name and address of the person making the submission or email donegaldevplan@donegalcoco.ie.

All submissions will be considered to inform the next stage of the process. The final date for submissions is Friday, October 13 2023.
