Finner Camp was awash with military regalia and pageantry on Thursday as the 28th Infantry Battalion marked its 50th anniversary.
The unit was formally established in September 1973 due to the heightening civil unrest in Northern Ireland.
At the time, it was the largest unit in the Irish Defence Forces, manning border operations spanning a distance from Muff in Donegal to Blacklion in Cavan.
Soldiers current and former attended Thursday’s ceremony.
Lieutenant Colonel Shane Rockett, Officer Commanding of the 28th Infantry Battalion said: “The 28th Infantry Battalion is embedded in the local community.
"For five decades, we have faced challenges and faced the changing tides of history, but the unit has stood strong and is always ready to answer the call of duty.”
