Letterkenny University Hospital has over 4,500 patients without a bed this year and ranks as the eighth busiest hospital in the country, according to the latest figures.

The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO) this week released hospital figures from across the country from January 1 to October 25. 

The INMO statistics show that 1,785 patients were left in the Emergency Department at Letterkenny and 2,786 in wards elsewhere without a bed this year. Leaving the total number of patients who were not accommodated at an astonishing 4,571.

This year so far, University Hospital Limerick was the busiest hospital in the country with 17,668 patients left without a bed. This is followed by Cork University Hospital which had 10,471, Galway University Hospital which had 7,453 and Sligo University Hospital with 6,681 patients not accommodated.

Letterkenny is the eighth busiest overall. In 2023, 101,240 patients have been without a bed across Ireland.
