A recent report from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has found that there are 7 areas in Donegal where raw sewage is being discharged because the public sewers are not connected to treatment plants.

The area are Burtonport, Coolatee, Falcarragh, Kerrykeel, Moville, Ramelton and Rathmullan.

In its Urban Waste Water Treatment report for 2022, the EPA found that over half of Ireland's wastewater discharges are not meeting EU standards to protect the environment.

The report did state that there has been some good progress in reducing the number of areas with no treatment, including six villages being connected to treatment plants over the past year.

However, a further 26 towns and villages remain unconnected.

Meanwhile, a representation from Independent Councillor Michael McClafferty to Uisce Éireann seeking a meeting regarding the Glenties Municipal District Infrastructure Delivery Directorate projects has reaped positive divident with a representative due to be present at the next Glenties Electoral Meeting.

The Falcarragh Sewerage Scheme, Dunfanaghy/Portnablagh Sewerage Scheme, and water network pipe replacement throughout the Glenties Municipal District is due to be discussed.

Mr McClafferty said: "I will continue to fight locally to get our sewer treatment plants up to an exceptable modern day standard."

The meeting will take place on November 1 in Dungloe.
