Historic book about Lord George Hill and Gaoth Dobhair to be launched

Cathal Porter

A new book An Tiarna George Hill agus Pobal Ghaoth Dobhair will be launched by Noel
Ó Gallchóir in Óstán an Cúirt on Friday, November 24 at 7.30pm.

The book which is published by Cló Iar-Chonnacht showcases the work of broadcaster, writer and historial Cathal Porter.

It is fitting that the book is being launched in a hotel which was built by the former landlord George Hill. Many stories exist about the landlord and Cathal has captured many of them within his 220-page historic work.

In 1845, a pamphlet Facts from Gweedore was published which depicts the work carried out by Hill. This pamphlet was writen by the hand of Sir James Dombrain. Relations between the landlord, clergy and community became frayed and much of this testimony is referenced in Mr Porter's work.
The book costs €18 to purchase and will be available for purchase from the Cló Iar-Chonnacht website.
