There are plans to transform a derelict school on the outskirts of Mountcharles into a house.

Drumcoe National School has been closed for almost 50 years, but plans are afoot to give the old building a facelift.

A planning application was recently lodged to Donegal County County in respect of the building.

David Boyd has sought permission from Donegal County Council to change the old school house to a dwelling. The planning application also provides for the installation of a sewerage treatment plant with soil polishing filter.

The site is located at Drumcoe, Mountcharles.

Drumcoe NS first opened in 1845 and served as a school until 1975. A new school was constructed in the area in 1965 and Drumcoe NS closed in ’75 with pupils transferred.

Donegal County Council say that a decision on the application is expected to be made in January, 2024.
