Altan to perform at TradFest 2024 in Dublin

Ireland’s largest gathering of trad and folk music is back bigger and better than ever with Gaoth Dobhair’s Altan among the star attractions.

TradFest 2024 throughout Dublin in January 2024, from the City Centre to the castles and coastline of historic Fingal.

Showcasing the best of established and emerging musical talent, TradFest is a joyful celebration of culture reimagining and redefining Irish music. The full programme is available at tradfest.com where you can also purchase tickets.

Altan will be performing in the Pepper Canister Church at 7.30pm on Friday, January 26.

Altan, a leading force in traditional Irish music for nearly 40 years, was founded by Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh and Frankie Kennedy in the early 1980s. Their music, ranging from energetic dance tunes to soulful songs, reflects the depth of Irish heritage.

Altan’s global popularity earned them an Irish postal stamp and recognition from Donegal County Council. With award-winning recordings and their new member Clare Friel, they continue to thrive and share their culture worldwide. Their traditional approach and integrity have earned praise from renowned sources, solidifying their status as Celtic music pioneers.

Other highlights of the TradFest 2024 lineup include Janis Ian, Ralph McTell, Carlos Núñez , Julie Fowlis, Aoife O’Donovan, Alison Brown, Eileen Ivers, Kíla, Bridget Mae Power, Aoife Scott, Allison Russell, Stockton’s Wing, The Raines, Strangeboy, Niamh Farrell, Varo, Maírtín O’Connor Trio, Paddy Keenan, Steo Wall, Niamh Dunne, Sharyn Ward, Yankari, Dogogo Hart, Dublin Pride Géile, Lumerie, The Deadlians, the return of the Smithicks sessions and much more. TradFest runs from 24-28 January 2024

The festival will also include a food market, an outdoor céilí, children’s programme, talks, a film screening, workshops plus a specially commissioned suite of music to commemorate the tragic loss of the RMS Tayleur, better known as the Victorian Titanic, off the coast of Portrane in January 1854.
