Sinn Féin MEP for Midlands Northwest, Chris MacManus held a meeting to address rural decline and regional imbalance in Glenties on Monday night.

The meeting was well attended and included contributions from a range of sectoral groups, Donegal TD Pearse Doherty, Cllr Marie Therese Gallagher and Sinn Féin representative Brian Carr.

The issues raised related to a range of subjects such as Farming, Fishing, Youth Services, Tourism and Culture.
Chris MacManus MEP said: “The meeting was very productive and informative. The point of the meeting wasn’t to claim we have all the answers but to listen to the community and their concerns.

“We must take on board what was said here tonight and I thank everybody for their engagement and for the important points that were made.

“I want to also thank them for braving the stormy weather to make it. Political will is needed to change things for the West and North West, for rural areas. If you want to change the dynamic, you have to have a change in government. That is the reality.
“Sinn Féin in government will have that political will to change things for rural areas. Things will need to be ‘rural proofed’. We need to consider whether things work for all of Ireland, not just one part of it.”
