There is much sadness in the wider Donegal Town area following the death of Martin Travers, Finadoose.
Martin passed away at Donegal Community Hospital, Donegal Town on Tuesday.
A spokesperson for Leghowney Community Hall took to social media on Wednesday morning to express the shock and sadness which many people in the area are feeling.
The spokesperson said: “The community of Leghowney and beyond is in a state of mourning and disbelief at the sad passing of Martin Travers yesterday, after a short illness, so bravely borne.
“Martin was the true epitome of a family man and a community man. He was happiest when in the company of his family, grandchildren, his many many friends and not forgetting his beloved dog Joey and we will all miss the sight of the two of them taking to the roads for their daily ‘circle’.
“Martin was a man of many talents and could turn his hand to anything. His beautiful home and garden are a testament to his hard work and attention to detail, and indeed he has left his mark in many ways on our own Leghowney community hall .
“Rest easy now Martin; we will all miss you in so many ways.
“Our sincere condolences to Rosie and all the family.”
Martin is survived by his wife Rosie, children Enda, Shane, Cahill, Aoife and Grainne, his brothers Joseph, Liam, Eamon and Brian, sisters Mary and Noreen, grandchildren Tom, Ollie, Bobby and Lily, and a wide circle of extended family and friends.
Funeral Arrangements
Martin’s remains are reposing at his late residence, Eircode F94 H4X7, on Wednesday and Thursday from 2pm until Rosary at 9pm each evening. Those coming to pay their respects are advised that there will be a one-way system in operation during wake times. Entry is via Finabanes with the exit onto the Leghowney road.
Funeral Mass will take place on Friday at 11am in St Agatha’s Church, Clar with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
The house is private to family on the morning of the funeral.
