Last March, Gardaí from the Ballyshannon District were alerted to the fact that a man was in distress in a river in the Glenties area.
Sergeant Mark Colgan entered the water and brought the man to safety with the help of Garda Emmet Cassidy and Garda Noel Gavaghan. Thankfully, the man made a full recovery.
Water Safety Ireland National Awards honoured the rescue heroes on Tuesday to recognise their bravery in rescuing people who were in immediate danger in the water. All three gardaí were recipients of a 'Rescue Appreciation Award' on Tuesday.
The three Garda members were among 32 colleagues who were recipients of Tuesday’s Water Safety Ireland Awards. The 32 recipients saved the lives of 16 people who were in immediate danger whilst in the water over recent months.
