The first flurries of snow have been seen in Donegal overnight, particularly in parts of the Finn Valley area where light snow showers were reported on Wednesday evening.

There has been a notable drop in temperatures over the last few days, with Donegal County Council's gritters in action. 

Met Eireann is forecasting further wintry conditions going into the first weekend of December, with overnight temperatures dropping as low as -4ºC.

Thursday is off to a frosty start. While many areas will be dry with sunny spells, the odd wintry shower may occur. Light north easterly winds will keep temperatures generally under 4ºC throughout the day, though it may feel much colder. 

Thursday night will be very cold with widespread sharp to severe frost and ice. Temperatures expected to drop to around -3ºC to -4ºC inland, and around -2ºC in coastal areas.  Scattered wintry showers will push in later with a dusting of snow possible. in light northerly or variable breezes. Patches of mist or freezing fog are likely, leading to challenging driving conditions.

Frost, ice and lingering mist or fog will clear gradually on Friday morning as the first day of the meteorological winter gets underway. It will be very cold with well scattered wintry showers with a dusting of snow possible. It will however be laregly dry with some sunny spells. Temperatures are not expected to exceed 3ºC in light to moderate northwesterly breezes.
