Clannad star Moya Brennan has recalled her friendship with the ‘amazing’ Shane MacGowan.

The legendary frontman of The Pogues died on Thursday aged 65 following an illness.

MacGowan passed away with his family by his side.

In August, Moya visited her old friend in hospital and on Friday night she took part in a special tribute on The Late Late Show.

“He was frail, but his spirit was just amazing,” she recalled of a recent visit to St Vincent’s Hospital. “He would always put a smile on your face.”

Moya told how the iconic Fairytale of New York singer would always greet her: ‘Ah, Donegal’.

In 1995, the pair linked up to record a duet, ‘You’re The One’, for the film ‘Circle Of Friends’.

She said: “It was really nice. When it was suggested to do the song with myself and Shane and myself, I was bowled over.

“I knew the contrast would be huge, but I just thought it would be really nice.”
