Limerick businessman JP McManus has made a substantial contribution to Donegal GAA, and all GAA county boards in Ireland, to further invest in the national sport.

It has been confirmed that a figure €1 million is to be donated to each county board. LimerickLive understands that Mr McManus has made contribution to the county boards across the country through the JP McManus Charitable Foundation.

In a statement Limerick GAA have welcomed the €1 million donation from JP and Noreen McManus and family "to distribute evenly to the GAA, Camogie and Ladies Football clubs within the county."

Limerick clubs were this Thursday morning notified of the news and it is understood the funds will be distributed before Christmas.

Commenting on the news Limerick GAA chairperson Seamus McNamara said “We are delighted with the news today from the JP and Noreen McManus and family and their exceptionally generous donation. The clubs are the bedrock of the GAA and this will help in a time when costs are increasing for clubs to manage their funds. We are exceptionally grateful to JP, Noreen and all the McManus family for this fantastic donation.”

As first reported by Extra.ie, the money will be evenly distributed between GAA, camogie and ladies Gaelic football clubs.

The JP McManus Charitable Foundation was established in 2000, with the Limerick businessman making a similar contribution of €100,000 to every county board in Ireland back in 2018. That €3.2 million donation came in the wake of the county hurling team’s first senior All-Ireland win in 45 years.
