Councillor Micheál Choilm Mac Giolla Easbuig has called for the street lights to be fixed in “one of the busiest parts of An Clochán Liath,” the N56 Gaoth Dobhair road.

The particular stretch requested lies between Greene’s corner and the An Clochán Liath (Dungloe) council office. On this road there are several businesses, the river walk and a community hospital.

“This is an extremely busy part of the town where walkers and joggers have been left in the dark due to street lights not working,” Cllr Micheál Choilm explained.

Repairing the street lights would lead to increased visibility, therefore making pedestrians feel safer whilst passing through and giving drivers a clearer path which ultimately reduces hazards.

“Local road services are doing their best but it is important that those who are in a position to fund it, step up.

“It is a government responsibility and it is crucial that the government fund the lights in order to get them back in use.

“It is a disgrace to not fund this type of infrastructure adequately. It is time for Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael to stop ignoring west Donegal.”

According to the Donegal County Council Enerveo are responsible for the maintenance of street lighting in the Republic of Ireland.
