Four Donegal drivers were among those who were stopped for speeding on National Slow Down Day. Today marks the final National Slow Down Day of 2023 and in the first five hours, GoSafe checked the speed of 28,569 vehicles and detected 120 travelling above the speed limit.

Buncrana Roads Policing Unit stopped two drivers this morning in a speed zone of 100km/h and they have received fixed charge penalty notices for the offence of speeding. One driver was travelling 128km/h and the other 124km/h. A further two drivers were caught in Stranorlar one travelling 121km/h in a 100km/h zone and another travelling 69km/h in a 60km/h zone. These drivers will have to pay a fine of €160 and will each receive 3 penalty points.

An Garda Síochána continues to appeal to drivers to comply with speed limits in order to reduce the number of speed-related collisions, save lives and reduce injuries on our roads.

“Please slow down this weekend. Drive with extra caution as you make your way home for Christmas,” a garda spokesperson advised.
