An award winning film produced by Gaoth Dobhair man Ferdia Doherty will be broadcast tonight on RTÉ 1.

Ann is an observational narrative drama which tells the tragic story of Ann Lovett, 15, who gave birth in a grotto in Granard, Longford, alone. She died in childbirth.

The film covers events which took place during the course of one day, January 31, 1984.

Ferdia is the son of former councillor Pádraig and Annette Ó Dochartaigh.  He moved to Chicago around three decades ago. He said that working on the story of Ann Lovett was one that resonated deeply with him being a father of three.

The award winning film directed by the talented director Ciaran Creagh.

At the 2023 Dublin International Film Festival, Ann had its Irish premiere and it picked up the Michael Dwyer Discovery Award for Zara Devlin’s portrayal of Ann Lovett.

The film will be broadcast tonight on RTÉ 1 at 9.30pm.
