Former proprietor of Harvey’s Point Deirdre McGlone has paid a beautiful tribute to hotel employee Sean Murphy who was laid to rest on Sunday.

“Welcome to Heaven,” begins Deirdre, adding: “These were the words that Sean Murphy said to guests as he opened the door to one of the grand suites at Harvey's Point.”

She shared her family’s great love and respect for Sean who was a familiar face at Harvey’s Point for many years.

“Sean loved people and people loved Sean. It was as simple as that,” said Deirdre.

“He was a most loyal member of the Harvey's Point family.

“Sean was kind, thoughtful and so genuine in his passion for excellence in hospitality.

“On a personal note, Sean and I shared a special friendship. He was always there for me when times got a bit tough and of course on the many happy occasions that we had cause to celebrate. We often had a bit of a giggle together with a subtle code of communication that didn't need to be explained.”

Sean was a popular colleague at the multi award winning  hotel on the shores of Lough Eske.

Deirdre said: “If our troubled world had more people like Sean Murphy in it, we would all be in a better place.

“Sean had the gift of wisdom blended with a gentle power.

“His memory will remain in our hearts forever. We extend our sincere sympathy to Sean's wife Margaret and all his family.

“Now that Sean has entered the pearly gates, we feel safe in the knowledge that he will be there to meet us when our time comes. This is what he will say: /Welcome to Heaven.’”

Sean, late of Castlecommon, Killybegs, passed away  peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family on Friday, December 29.

He is survived by his loving wife Margaret, his son Ronan (Denise), daughter Mairéad (Trevor), son Enda (Natalie), adoring grandchildren Cara, Ava, Amelia, Alfie, Séan and Lily, brothers Peter and Paul, sister Maria, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Funeral Mass took place in St Mary of the Visitation Church, Killybegs on New Year’s Eve, followed by burial in the local cemetery.
