Muireann Bradley has described the experience of performing with some musical legends on Jools Holland's Hootenanny as ‘amazing’.

The Ballybofey teenager appeared on the BBC2 show on New Year’s Eve and her stirring rendition of Candyman was given a standing ovation.

It was the Abbey Vocational School student’s first televised performance.

Millions tuned in to the show and the rising Donegal musician was one of the real highlights.

"It was a really amazing experience, everyone there was just so nice,” Muireann told RTÉ’s Morning Ireland.

“It was really amazing how well put together the whole team was. The whole show was amazing and it was amazing to meet all those legends."

Muireann recently launched a new album, ‘I Kept These Old Blues’, and the American acoustic blues guitarist Stefan Grossman said of her: “A wonderful player. I can now retire: the torch has been passed.”

Alongside her, rock legend Rod Stewart made his Hootenanny debut on Sunday night and was joined by other favourites from Joss Stone and Olivia Dean to Paul Jones, PP Arnold, Raye, Sugababes and The Mary Wallopers.

During Stewart’s rendition of Enjoy Yourself, he offered the mic to the Ballybofey woman, whose musical interest came from her father.

She said: "I'd describe it as folk blues music, I got into it from my dad, he’s really obsessed with all of that kind of music and I grew up listening to it. He taught me. I really loved the music and how complex it is and I just love it."
