Sold out concerts and classes at Scoil Gheimhridh Ghaoth Dobhair

Scoil Gheimhridh Ghaoth Dobhair brought almost two-hundred students, twenty teachers, sold out concerts, packed local bars and pubs and filled rooms and houses thoughout the parish. 

Organiser Cathal Ó Curráin said most of the classes that run during the event were ninety-five per cent full. 

Three major concerts Bláth na hÓige, Ye Vagabonds and an Oíche Chinn Bliana sold out. 

"All the pubs Teach Mhicí, Teach Jack, Teach Hiudaí Beag, Drioglann Chroithlí, Teach Leo and other places were packed and that was great to see," he said. 

The school is run annually by Comharchumann Forbartha Ghaoth Dobhair. 

Next year Scoil Gheimhridh will celebrate its thirtieth anniversary. The school was established as Scoil Gheimhridh Frankie Kennedy in memory of the talented musician. 

"I would like to thank all those who worked voluntarily during the event. That was a great help. It added immensely to the event to have people present who could direct visitors to the area," he said. 

He also thanked all those who offered homes and rooms to those who came to the area to attend the classes or to enjoy the concerts and sessions. 

"I would very much like to thank those who offered up homes and rooms in their homes to those who came to the area because without them we couldn't run this event," he said.  

He thanked the Arts Council for funding and also thanked Raidió na Gaeltacha, Údarás na Gaeltachta, Maddens i mBéal Feirste, Ealaíon, Meitheal Pleanála Teanga, Five Farms Irish Cream and An Chrannóg for all their support.
