A meeting of the Glenties Municipal District (GMD) was adjourned this morning as a mark of respect for the late Fianna Fáil Councillor Noreen McGarvey. 

The 52-year-old councillor passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2023. 

Cllr McGarvey was elected to Donegal County Council in 2019. Her first meeting at the GMD was Monday, June 14, 2019. On June 9, 2020, she was elected Cathaoirleach of the GMD. On September 8, 2020, she was elected Cathaoirleach of Coiste na n-oileán and on May 9, 2023, she was re-elected to the position of Leas Cathaoirleach. 

Cathaoirleach Michael McClafferty, Independent Councillor Micheál Choilm Mac Giolla Easbuig and Sinn Féin Councillors Marie Therese Gallagher, John Shéamais Ó Fearraigh were present alongside council officials this morning. 

Cathaoirleach Michael McClafferty proposed the adjournment this morning as a mark of respect for the late councillor. The proposal was seconded by Independent Cllr Micheál Choilm Mac Giolla Easbuig. The next meeting will take place on February 13.
