Relief as date set for Manorcunningham water works

Householders in areas of Manorcunningham who have been blighted by regular outages in recent years finally have a remedy in sight.

Uisce Éireann have confirmed that water rehabilitation works in the Raymoghy, Rossbracken and Pluck, will begin on January 29.

Fianna Fáil Councillor Donal ‘Mandy’ Kelly, who has been a regular campaigner for the works, says that Errirty’s Brae, known locally as Boyle’s Brae, has been added to the schedule of works for the installation of new water infrastructure.

“The works will commence at Erritys Brea down to McElhinneys shop right down to the N14 and then cross the N14 right over Rossbracken to near Cassidys quarries,” Councillor Kelly said.

“I’m delighted for the residents in these areas that this long ongoing issue is now going to be resolved once and for all.”

At the January meeting of the Letterkenny-Milford Municipal District, Councillor Kelly tabled a motion on the issue, asking that Donegal County Council engage with Uisce Éireann to ensure that the works are completed ‘as a matter of urgency’.

Councillor Kelly revealed that homes in the area went several days over Christmas and the New Year without water.

“What has been going on in these areas is absolutely ridiculous,” he said. “All through Christmas and New Year, every day or every other day, these people were without water.”

Councillor Kelly acknowledged the work of the water service staff in Donegal County Council, who aided the affected people.

“These people have been at their wits end and frustrated, but they will now get a proper service that they deserve,” he said.

His motion was seconded by Councillor Kevin Bradley, who said: “It is an absolute disgrace what has been happening in that area. For two days in a row, people had no water and they couldn’t even boil a kettle. They aren’t asking for a big thing and Uisce Éireann need to pull the socks up.”
