'What a talent': Twitter captivated by Muireann Bradley on The Late Late Show

Ballybofey blues star Muireann Bradley caught the eyes and ears of the nation with a stirring debut on The Late Late Show.

The Donegal teenager performed her version of When The Levee Breaks, the 1920s country blues song first recorded by Memphis Minnie and Kansas Joe McCoy.

Following her appearance on Jools’ Annual Hootenanny on BBC Two on New Year’s Eve, Murireann’s star and stock have risen to new heights with her debut album, I Kept Those Old Blues, rocking to number one in the iTunes chart.

Abbey Vocational School student Muireann took a place beside Irish actors Paul Mescal and Andrew Scott, who have started in their new film, All Of Us Strangers, and show host Patrick Kiely after her performance. It was obvious that the film stars were impressed by the youngster’s talents.

“It’s going amazing so far,” she said. Muireann told how she grew up listening to blues music, influenced by her father, John, who has a deep interest in the genre.

“Growing up, all I heard was the old 1920s and 30s stuff. I came to love it. Seeing dad playing, I just wanted to take it up myself.”

Kielty told the audience how Muireann plays her ‘own brand of Ballybofey country blues’ and how her fan club would soon include ‘pretty much everyone with pair of ears’.
