Leanne McBrearty’s artwork will be displayed at Omagh’s Strule Art Centre

The ‘Covid Punch’ marked Leanne's first time drawing a realistic person

Leanne McBrearty, a 5th Year student studying at Finn Valley College has had her artwork chosen to exhibit at Omagh’s Strule Art Centre. 

The artwork chosen was entitled the ‘Covid Punch’ which depicts a self-portrait of Leanne, with the phrase in the background “Please keep a safe 1m distance”. The artwork won second prize in Category G of Texaco’s 68th Art Competition in 2022.

“Huge congratulations to 5th Year student Leanne Mc Brearty whose artwork has been chosen to exhibit at Omagh’s Strule Art Centre,” Finn Valley College Shared.

“Leanne herself commented on the ‘Covid Punch’ which marked her first time drawing a realistic person. 

“Leanne expressed her joy at being part of another prestigious art exhibition and encourages everyone to enter future competitions like this. She continues to study Art for her Leaving Cert and has a very bright future ahead!

“Well done Leanne, what a fabulous opportunity for you.” 

This year marks the 70th Texaco Children’s Art Competition and the Children’s Art Winners exhibition will take place from February 2 to February 24. The Texaco Children’s Art Competition is popularly regarded as the longest-running sponsorship in the history of arts sponsoring in Ireland, with an unbroken history that dates back to the very first Competition held in 1955.
