The Irish Independent has revealed the Reader Travel Awards 2024 and Slieve League was listed in the ‘Top 10 Trails for 2024’.
Slieve League which is considered the highest accessible sea cliffs in Europe placed sixth on the list.
Slieve League is a 1,972-foot mountain situated near Teelin on the southwest coast. The cliffs boast stunning views of the Donegal Bay and the Atlantic Ocean.
“Think the Cliffs of Moher are impressive? Wait until you see Slieve League,” The Irish Independent Reader Travel Awards revealed.
“Home to the highest sea cliffs in Ireland, this mountain makes for a mighty hike, even if it is a bit more of a scramble in places.
“You have two options for a hike — you can walk from the car park at the Bunglass viewpoint, or do the Pilgrim Path, a linear hike that brings you some of the best lookout spots, if the weather plays ball.
“The most stunning walk in the world,” is how one reader described Slieve League.
The Top 10 Trails for 2024 listed Glendalough and Spine in Wicklow as the best walk in Ireland. The second place was given to Howth Cliff Walk, Dublin, the third hike on the list is Diamond Hill, Galway, number four was taken by the Cliffs of Moher, Clare and number 5 was listed as Croagh Patrick located in Mayo.
The Irish Independent Reader Travel Awards also revealed that Donegal was voted as the fourth-best holiday county.
Kerry was considered the best holiday county, followed by Cork coming as number two and Clare taking third place.
