The Irish Independent has revealed the Reader Travel Awards 2024 and The Rusty Mackerel has been listed as the eighth “best pet-friendly café or restaurant.”
In The Rusty Mackerel, your pet is welcome to accompany you either inside, where dog-friendly seating is available, or outside in the heated beer garden. Water bowls and treats are provided and breed or size limitations do not apply.
The Rusty Mackerel is located in Teelin and it is a traditional Irish bar and restaurant. The location is not far from the Slieve League Cliffs which also received a mention as it placed sixth on the list in the ‘Top 10 Trails for 2024’.

“Top 10 Dog-Friendly cafés and restaurants according to Readers Traveler’s Award. Never leave your furry friend behind.”
In 2022, The Rusty Mackerel 2022 was also voted in the top 20 pubs in Ireland by Lonely Planet.
Some of the other notable places on the list were: in first place The Twelve Hotel, Galway; in second place was the 360 Cookhouse, Waterford; the third place was Arán Bakery and Bistro, Kilkenny; number four is Bean & River, Kingsley Hotel, Cork city; and number five was Pye, Dundrum, Co Dublin.
