Danielle McLaughlin’s body was found on the morning of March 14, 2017
A GoFundMe has been set up to assist the family of Buncrana native Danielle McLaughlin, whose body was found in India seven years ago today.
Danielle, then 28, went to India in 2017 to attend Holi, the Hindu festival of colours. Only two weeks after her arrival, her body was found in Canacona, located in Goa. Danielle's body was discovered in a field, having been the victim of a rape and murder.
On Prime Time on RTÉ television on Tuesday, Danielle’s family discussed their loss and fight for justice.
A suspect in Danielle's case was arrested within hours of the crime. The trial is yet to conclude and has been heard over 250 times. However, the accused, Vikat Bhagat, was recently granted interim bail for the second time to attend his sister's wedding on February, 24. Danielle’s body was found on the morning of March 14, 2017.
Another trial for her murder is scheduled to take place today, Thursday, the seventh anniversary of the day Danielle’s body was discovered and a doctor's evidence is due to be given in court.
You can donate to the GoFundMe here
“Hi, I have made this GoFundMe to help Danielle's mum Andrea and her sister Joleen with the cost of flights and accommodation to travel to India to go to the sentencing of the man who murdered our beloved friend,” reads the description from the fundraiser, set up by friend Emma Louise McMenamin. "We are hoping for the trial to be over in July of this year."
“India is so far away and they haven't been able to see him or go to one hearing or court case. Please help and donate to get them there for this sentencing and to give them closure and peace of this nightmare. Any donation will make a massive difference. Thank you all so much.”
