Donegal gardaí foil getaway attempt by disqualified driver

A disqualified driver tried to make a getaway when stopped by An Garda Siochana on Saturday night.

Letterkenny Roads Policing Unit arrested a learner driver at a (MIT) Mandatory Intoxicant Testing checkpoint after they failed the roadside oral fluid preliminary drug test, testing positive for cannabis.

While gardaí were dealing with this driver another vehicle approached the checkpoint and the driver did a U-Turn. This vehicle was stopped a few minutes later by another Garda Unit and it transpired the driver is disqualified from driving. The vehicle was seized and the driver will now face a court appearance.

“Arrive alive this Bank Holiday weekend and help ensure that other road users do too by making responsible decisions,” a Garda spokesperson said.
