The fundraiser will include a screening of the 2018 documentary Freedom to Run
A special fundraising edition of the Disappear Here Film Club in support of Medical Aid for Palestine will take place in the Colgan Hall in Carndonagh on Friday, April 5.
The Ballyliffin-based film club, which is a partnership with ChangeMakers Donegal and Concern Worldwide, is joining forces with popular musicians The Henry Girls, in a bid to raise much-needed funds for medical support in war-torn Palestine.
The fundraiser will include a screening of the 2018 documentary Freedom to Run, which follows two groups of runners and sheds light on the restrictions Palestinians face in the West Bank.
There will also be a post-show discussion featuring Majida Al Askari, Palestinian activist, artist and member of the Inishowen Palestine Solidarity Group, along with Miriam Killeney, who is also a member of the solidarity group.
There will also be Palestinian food on offer, Fairtrade tea and coffee followed by a session with The Henry Girls in McClure’s Bar in Carndonagh.
Michael McLaughlin, producer of Disappear Here Film Festival, who visited Palestine in 2017, said he hopes the special screening will be a small act of solidarity from the people of Inishowen to the people in Palestine.
“At our monthly Film Club we always try and to open up the conversation around local and international injustice,” Michael said.
“With the ongoing war 32,000 Palestinians are dead and hunger is gripping the Gaza Strip we ask you to join us at this film screening in support of the Palestinian people. While we feel helpless, we gather and try to offer this small act of solidarity with a people under siege.”
The screening will get underway in The Colgan Hall at 7.30 pm on Friday, April 5. People are asked to pre-book their tickets and bring €5 in cash on the evening to pay for the ticket. All donations will be transferred directly to the Medical Aid for Palestine charity.
Lorna McLaughlin of The Henry Girls said it is important to continue to show our solidarity with the people in Palestine in every way we can. She said they were delighted to team up with the Disappear Here Film Club.
“I hope people come to see this documentary film as it gives real insight into what life is like for Palestinians living in an oppressive, apartheid state. Gaza is a place the size of Inishowen and because of the war in the last six months, 32,000 civilians have been killed there. We must continue to show our solidarity with the Palestinians in every way
we can.”
Booking for the event is now open. Due to limited space booking is necessary.
