File Image: Inspector Allanna Ní Mhíocháin noted that the facility were found to be fully compliant with HIQA standards
A residential facility, Tus Nua, was inspected and found to be fully compliant with all HIQA standards.
The new facility is located in a rural area close to Donegal Town. Thirteen regulations were inspected, and all were found to be fully compliant with standards.
The centre was inspected on January 11 and the report was published on the HIQA website on April 4.
It was noted by the HIQA inspector, Allanna Ní Mhíocháin, on the day of inspection that “staff were observed interacting with residents in a friendly and respectful way. Staff were quick to respond when residents asked for help. Throughout the day, staff chatted with residents in a comfortable manner and, at times, were heard laughing together at a shared joke. Staff were very knowledgeable on the needs and preferences of residents”.
Tus Nua provides residential care and support for four adults with an intellectual disability. The centre comprises a kitchen/dining area where residents can prepare and enjoy meals and snacks and a separate sitting room where residents can relax, watch TV, or listen to music. There is a separate utility room with laundry facilities. Each resident has their own room, all of which have en-suite facilities. The maximum occupancy of the facility is four residents.
Residents are supported by a team of Care staff and a Clinical Nurse Manager 2.
