Convoy man caught with €500 cannabis stash

A Convoy man who was found in possession of €500 worth of cannabis has been given a chance to avoid a conviction.

Luke Laird was before Letterkenny District Court this week.

Garda Inspector Tony Byrne told the court that Laird's home at Beechwood Grove, Convoy was searched on March 30, 2021 under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Gardai found over 30 grams of cannabis herb.

Laird, a 29-year-old of Beechwood Grove, Convoy, has no previous convictions and was co-operative with gardai, Inspector Byrne said.

“Bar this, he is a very responsible person,” Laird's solicitor, Mr Frank Dorrian, told the court.

“Cannabis does not form a large part of his existence. He was completely co-operative and he accepts responsibility.”

Mr Dorrian told the court that Laird is a father-of-one who drives for a living.

“This was a part of the Covid experience that endured,” Mr Dorrian said.

Judge Ciaran Liddy told Laird that if he made a €250 donation to Cara House the matter would be struck out. A default order of a €250 fine was set down and the matter adjourned to May 20 next.
