Director of Bundoran’s Sea Sessions festival Ray O’Donoghue has been tasked with revitalising Dublin’s night time economy.

The creation of the position of Night Mayor stems from a government report in September 2021 which recommended the role for cities and towns nationwide.

O’Donoghue has been among the directors of Sea Sessions for the last decade, as well as being a director of independent music and entertainment promoters Onhand Booking and Events Ltd.

Speaking about his recent appointment on LinkedIn, he said: “It's a position I'm really looking forward to; it may be somewhat challenging but it's also hugely exciting.

“The night time economy, in the capital city especially, is something that needs to parallel similar economies in European capitals. Hopefully I'll be able to, in some way, help get us on par with these major cities.”

The role is due to last for two years.
