Independent candidate Selina O’Donnell to focus her election run in Letterkenny

Convoy native Selina O’Donnell believes she can provide a fresh voice in the county council, full of creativity and solutions

Selina O’Donnell, a new Independent candidate in the upcoming local elections, will run solely in the Letterkenny Municipal District.

O’Donnell had considered also running in the Glenties area but has since decided to focus on Letterkenny.

“Initially I thought I would run in the Glenties District and the Letterkenny District however as I will be living in Letterkenny I have given up on running in the wild west of Donegal,” she said.

“I will give it a great effort in the Letterkenny District and enjoy canvassing and participating in the Highland Radio debates. I can’t wait to run in this local election; growing up in Convoy, coming into Letterkenny was always fun, I remember running my first 10k race around Letterkenny in the 90s: The Rockhill 10k.

“Since returning from my travels I have noticed some things about the town that have gone downhill; the XL shop that is still a vacant building at the bottom of the Port Road, an increase in abandoned buildings around the town and a lack of a feeling of safety in some areas of the town.

“While I was on the Main Street a few weeks ago sitting in the outside area of a coffee shop I was approached by someone begging for money twice. These are among some of the issues that need to be worked on. I will be a fresh voice in the county council, full of creativity and solutions. I will not just complain about problems but I will be a solver and a contribution to a great improvement. I will end this note with my campaign slogan: "Let’s Make Letterkenny Even Better!”

O’Donnell, from Convoy, has strong family links to the Gortahork and Rosses areas. She graduated with a Law degree from NUI Galway, runs with the Rosses AC, is a current Parkrun volunteer, an Irish language enthusiast and a member of the LGBTQ community. Since working as a tour guide, she would like to also start her own tour guide business at some point in the future as she sees huge potential in the beautiful Donegal landscape for walking and hiking tours.
