‘No Donegal TD should back Simon Harris as the next Taoiseach’ - Mac Lochlainn

Sinn Féin TD for Donegal, Pádraig Mac Lochlainn has stated that no Donegal TD should vote for Simon Harris as the next Taoiseach and should instead allow the people of the county to have their say in a general election.

The Dáil vote is set to take place tomorrow, April 9. 

“I am urging our local Donegal TDs, in particular, Joe McHugh and Charlie McConalogue not to back the installation of Simon Harris in tomorrow's Dáil vote,” Deputy Mac Lochlainn said. “Instead, they should ensure the people of Donegal can have their say in a general election.

“It’s time for change, not more of the same with Simon Harris. He has sat at the cabinet table for eight years as home ownership collapsed, as rents skyrocketed and as our health system crumbled. He has stood over two schemes for defective block homeowners that are nowhere near 100% redress and that are leaving most affected families behind. 

“He is a member of a government that has lurched from crisis to crisis, out of ideas and failing to deliver. A government that is out of touch, out of ideas and out of time. 

“Here in Donegal, we know all too well the impact of this poor governance. People in Donegal deserve better. They should have the opportunity to make their voices heard in a general election.

“If Charlie McConalogue and Joe McHugh are so certain that the people of Donegal want Simon Harris as Taoiseach, they should back a general election now and let the people decide.  

"Sinn Féin are absolutely clear that it's time for change. It's time for new people with new ideas. It's time for a general election, where the people can have their say."
