Hosted by the Donegal Association, the Donegal Person of Year honours people who are worthy ambassadors for the county through their achievements and contributions through sport, the arts, business and community.
The baton was passed to the Gaoth Dobhair woman known by last year’s recipients, the people of Creeslough.
Moya said that she was honoured to receive the award and was very proud of being from Donegal.
President of the Donegal Association Elaine Caffrey said of Moya: “The first lady of Celtic Music has had an amazing career which has spanned an incredible six decades and is still going strong.
“Moya has many fans from all over the world, has sold millions of records and recorded 25 albums.”
Guests at the Gala Ball were treated to entertainment from a fabulous lineup of musicians from Clannad and Altan, with Moya herself taking to the stage.
The guest list included former recipients of the honour, with Noel Cunningham, Deirdre McGlone, Jason Black and many more among those present.
There was also a raffle on the night, with this year’s nominated charity being Donegal Cancer Flights and Services. The organisers thanked all the businesses for their generous sponsorship of raffle prizes.
